Strong oxidizers, acid gases, moisture, solvents and temperature can interact, and a material that performs well in one chemical stream may not survive another.

100% PTFE Construction and Chemical Inertness

The chemical advantage is most valuable in mixed gas streams where conditions change over time. Hazardous Waste Incineration

Hazardous-waste incinerators can produce highly variable gas chemistry, acidic vapors and fine toxic particulate. Mechanical Strength, Pulse Cleaning and Bag Fabrication

Feierte describes PTFE felt as dimensionally stable with good warp and weft tensile strength and low thermal shrinkage. These properties help the bag tolerate repeated pulse cleaning. PTFE is still a textile product and can be damaged by cage burrs, sharp edges or incorrect bag length. Chemical resistance does not prevent mechanical abrasion.

Finished bags should use compatible sewing thread, cuff and reinforcement. A chemical-resistant filter body combined with an unsuitable seam component can create a premature leakage point. Procurement specifications should identify all exposed materials rather than only the felt.

When the Higher Material Cost Is Justified

PTFE should be evaluated on total cost of ownership. If a lower-cost bag fails every few months because of chemical attack, the plant pays for bags, labor, shutdown, disposal and potential emission risk. A longer-life PTFE bag can be economical even at a much higher unit price. Conversely, if the gas is mild and moderate in temperature, polyester or PPS may deliver adequate performance at lower cost.

A plant trial should compare service hours, differential pressure, emissions and cleaning frequency. Used-bag inspection should determine whether PTFE actually solved the previous failure mode. This prevents unnecessary premium-media use where mechanical or process-control issues are the real cause.
